Fickle is as Fickle does

Those who come here often will notice I’ve changed the blog look….again. I know. I’m fickle. Actually, its more that I can’t seem to find one that I really like enough to stick with it. We’ll try this one a bit and see how it goes.

Starting off with something pretty. Tmothers day flowers 2013hese are the flowers my sweetie brought home for me on Mother’s Day…from our doggies. :)   I love them and they look gorgeous on top of the wood stove. The lilies have the entire house smelling wonderful. He’s wonderful!

Next we have a dutch bench that I found last summer. It needed a new home and some TLC and now that its getting nice out, its a good time to start on it.

Here’s how it looked when I got it. There’s no seat, the wood needs some tlc and it needs a little tightening up here and there. Nothing drastic, though. Certainly nothing that cannot be easily fixed.

The other picture is the bench seat that I upholstered today. It’s a crappy-ish picture and really doesn’t show off how pretty the material is, but I’m really happy with how it came out. I’ll do the work next on the bench, then attach the seat to it and it’ll be ready dutch bench 1for sale.dutch bench seat 1

I also got new knitting needles and crochet hooks in the mail today. yay!  The first are 6 inch bamboo dpns from 0 -9 in size.  The second are bamboo crochet hooks sizes 3-10mm. I find that the bamboo really is easier in my hands because its warmer. I really didn’t think it would matter that much, but the more I do the more I notice it, specially in the winter.  Talk to you all again soon!

New Items I had at my show at Red Apple Farm

Heya all! Sorry I haven’t been as active lately. I had my big show at Red Apple Farms this past weekend and it went well. The weather was gorgeous and only a bit cold. For November in NW Mass though it was spectacular. The crowds were good and everyone was having a good time. Now I have a little breather before my last show of the year. I have enough stuff for that one, so I can give my self a little break. I made some new things for the last show and here is a couple pictures of those items. This little bell ornament was made for 12 baskets that were given to the musicians that volunteered their time to come and play throughout the day.

This is the first of my new items I would like to make. I love some of the crocheted jewelry and have decided to diversify a bit and combine both the fun of making jewelry with my love of knitting and crocheting. I hope to have a line of items that will include necklaces, wristlets, chokers and rings.

These are something totally different for me. A little while ago I posted about a large laundry hamper full of wooden cutouts I found at a yard sale. In that basket were 5 scarecrow patterns. I thought they would be cute for the show and here’s how they came out.

Mini Daydream Catchers!

These are small dreamcatchers perfect for your car mirror or anywhere else you want a little whimsy. The centers are crocheted and they each have various types of beads or decorations added to the front.

New Crafty Items and Finished Rag Rug!

Yes, that’s right. I finished my first rag rug. Next time I think I’ll do rectangle shape, but this turned out pretty good for winging it, I think. I love the colors. It looks so good with the colors in my living room. I’m pretty excited about it. I’ve wanted to try this for years.

And since I liked it so much….I got some more sheets at a rummage sale this weekend! These will make several rugs depending on the sizes. I think I’ll make some bathmats as well.

I’ve been on the lookout for doilies at yard sales. I know I have some stored away, a few at least, but can’t find them. Figures, right? lol. Anyway, been keeping my eyes peeled and I got these over the weekend.

I also found this double dreamcatcher which I’ll be deconstructing and upcycling.

Well, that’s my loot from this weekend. Now that the show is past, I can start working on my WIP projects. I’ll be glad to get some of them finished. And while this heat wave is broiling us in NW Mass, I’ll work on ones I can do in my room with my AC. LOL.

Good crafting all!

Cookies! Me love Cookies!

I know I’ve been a bit quiet of late. I’ve tried to take advantage of the gorgeous weather this week and get some things done outside. I’ve also been trying to wrap up some projects and try others out.

I gave myself a deadline of the 24th to have a new supply of jewelry/gifts made for my display at the store where I sell things; Keepin’ It Local in Athol, Mass. I’ll post those soon as I get them finished.

My sister’s hat is getting mailed out on Friday. Unfortunately too late for her to use it this winter, but hopefully for next.

Took on another project that I’ve wanted to try for some time now. I finally have enough materials to do it with and am finishing it up today. (hopefully). I’ll post that one, too.

In the meantime, I finished a project for my hubby. For a little back story…

When we were first married, as most young couples, we didn’t have a pot to piss in. We decided for our anniversary we would make each other something. He made me a beautiful teak box and put my name on the top with cape may diamonds and pretty pebbles (which we got when we went there on our honeymoon and the pebbles were from Stafford Forge, NJ where we went on our first date). I made him a flannel stuffed bear. He had never had a teddy bear so I made him one.

Now, 23 years later, the bear is a bit worse for wear. Flannel doesn’t hold up that well apparently. So Flannel Bear is now lovingly sitting on a shelf to spend his remaining years. Since the sweetie loves Cookie Monster I went looking for a pattern…and found a great one. I had never done anything like this so it was interesting. I think it turned out pretty well though and at least is recognizable as “The CM”.

The pattern was free from http://a-crochet-ninja.blogspot.com/ .  The yarn she used however was no longer available. It is a yarn from the UK, but they stopped making that particular color. I used Angel Hair yarn. It’s the same yarn I used for his scarf and worked out really nicely. He is soft, furry and totally cuddly. He is also about double, or more, the size that hers came out. I used 3.5 balls of the yarn to make this. The cookie was my addition and made with scraps of the peruvian wool that I used for my sister’s hat. What’s a Cookie Monster without a cookie after all?

Crochet yoyo tutorial « Rambling Designs

I’m pressing this because its a GREAT idea. It’s also a good way for me to not lose it. <grins> I’m going to make little granny squares instead simply because I think it would be easier for me to figure out how to sew together. What a cool idea for using up those little balls of leftovers!
