X is for…

Ok, it’s a little stretch, but work with me ๐Ÿ˜‰

A lot of these patterns call for specific types of things to be done and it occurred to me that everyone might not understand those instructions. So this is my page for Xplaining. <see how I did that? lol)

** When a knitting stitch says “multiple ofย  + add extra” what does that mean?**

The pattern takes the multiples; the second border takes the + extra. For example, I’m working a cable pattern that takes a border of 2 sts in garter, p2, cable over 8, p2 for a total of 14 sts.ย  If I make the item 1 pattern wide, or 14 sts, I still have to add 2 sts at the end of the row for the matching garter stitch border. If I make it 2 patterns wide, it’s 14 for the first pattern, 14 for the second pattern, plus 2 stitches for the ending garter stitch border or a total of 30 sts.ย  Three patterns wide, 14 + 14 + 14 + 2 = 44.ย  Every time, no matter how many pattern repeats, I have to add those border stitches to the end.
These next instructions are taken right from the calendar, so they will work with any of the patterns.
BTW… if you print these out, you can laminate them and use a hole punch and ring to make a little travel book. That way you always have the information at hand when other patterns call for them.

  1. Some patterns are so poorly written, they need a lot of Xplaining ๐Ÿ™‚
