Another FO!

It seems to have worked so here is that second post I told you about in the last post. 🙂 And if you didn’t read all the way to the end you will have no idea what I’m talking about.  hehe.

this is a Christmas pressie for a good friend. I found out she loves sea shells and I decided I wanted to do something with them. My original idea was to make a wire-wrapped fancy shell for a necklace but then I went in this direction. I’ve been really wanting to do some painting, but I was worried since I had never drawn shells before. I had the frames already so I painted them oceany colors. then I drew the shells, inked them and used Grumbacher watercolors to paint them. I used a white gel pen for some addition highlight and touched up some of the inked lines.

I’m really happy with how it came out. What do you guys think of my first shells?

Tea and Coasters

A couple of days ago, April 13th, it was National Peach Cobbler day, National Bookmobile day and National Scrabble day. All things I like. Almost immediately a picture popped into my head and I just HAD to draw it. As always, I hoped it would come out the way it looked in my head….and it did!  I added the tea pot and cups because none of those things are the same without a good cuppa tea along side them. It took me a couple days to get to it and then a couple to finish it, but its done now. yay!  😉 It was done on Canson 140lb watercolor paper. I used Derwent Graphitint watercolor pencils, since I wanted a more muted vintagey look to it. A white gel pen did my highlights. I really wish Derwent would make some more of the graphitints in a couple colors I think they should have included.

I’ve also been busy sewing. I haven’t heard back from the folks in charge yet, but sent my money in, to be a vendor at WWII Weekend. I’m excited, but I haven’t done a show in a couple of years and need to get more done for my tables. I’ll get photos of my bags that I’ve been working on when I finish them, which will hopefully be today or tomorrow. Then on to another set of bags in a little smaller size, but same design. In the meantime. I have 5 sets of inked coasters done. It’s been a bit of a learning curve on them and the weather has not been as cooperative for spraying them as I would have liked, but its warm and gorgeous today and here they are drying in the sun. I also made more wire wrapped pendants with the 1×1 tiles. I think I’m going to make some of them small magnets as well.

inked coastersI want to have a nice selection of items on my table, but I don’t want to go overboard with the same things until I see what is and isn’t going to sell. I plan on doing a couple more of the bigger shows this summer and fall so this will hopefully give me a good indication of what people like and what they buy.

Lastly I had to include some cute doggy photos of my girls. I just have to do it. LOL They are my sweeties. This first one is Rosie and Daddy. She loves to be up high and loves to be held so she’s in her glory in this picture. She can see what she wants, is cuddle up against dad’s arm shirt and is being held nice and secure. Yep, happy place, happy girl.

This picture is our older girl, Baby. This is her winter shaggy coat. She has since been to the groomer and gotten her first summer cut for the season. She is Baby the Inscrutable. She’s a real love and we almost lost her this winter. It was awful. She’s doing better now and, since putting her on fresh Salmon Oil, is doing wonderfully. After the near death illness, she has been having little anxiety attacks. They have found that fresh salmon oil is wonderful for treating early dementia and anxiety in dogs and even in alzheimer’s patients. Since putting her on the oil, she has only had two very small attacks, and by small, I mean they only lasted, at most, 10 mins or so, although one of them was at the groomer. They let her down to walk around and she calmed down. She just got a little over stressed, I think. She hates her feet being done and I think that’s what they were working on. Anyway, wonderful difference and she is back in playful, sassy form again. yay!

This is another pic of Rosie. Dad was working on something on the van and turned around and she had made herself all comfy on the cardboard box he’d just emptied. She’s a sun-soaker and she was enjoying one of the first warm days of this spring on her little “bed” of cardboard. Just had to grab a pic of it. 🙂

rosie on cardboardOk, so you got to see lots of new pics of what’s going on here. More will follow as I get things finished.

Wire wrapping and fabric painting today

I had FUN today. 🙂  I figured I deserved it after finally catching up with my dishes, laundry and making a big pot of Chicken Paprikash. (YUMMMM!)

So first thing was a tile project. You recall I posted the little tiles I had done with alcohol ink?  Today I did something I wanted try with the smallest ones. Wire wrapping and making a pendant out of them. The tiles are 1×1, I believe, and thought they would make cute necklace pendants. Now bear in mind that these are just practice. I messed up the bail on the one with copper wire so ignore that part. lol. I’m a bit rusty and think I may try a little different method ,but this gives you an idea of what I’m going for.

copper wrapped tile blue wrapped tileThe wire on the blue one is a bit too light, but at least the bail came out right. LOL.  I think I like them a lot.

The next thing I did was to start one of my projects with my Derwent Inktense Pencils. I’ve been dying to start on this. I bought a plain white canvas tote from Walmart and drew/painted a nice big sunflower on it. There are also two other smaller sunflowers on either side, but I didn’t get that far today. I think the person I saw doing it this way added a little water to the textile medium, but couldn’t remember so I used it straight. I’ll be checking the videos tonight in bed on you tube. 😉  Still, I love how it came out so far. It was a lot of fun and watching those colors just spring to life when they got wet was pure joy. I’ll show it to you again when its fully finished.

fabrictoteOh and a little update on the coasters. I have to go get another type of sealer. The one I used almost messed them up bad. It could have been really bad.  Did some more watching and reading and will be picking up another kind tomorrow. Hopefully, I’ll be able to post the finished stacks in a couple days.

Looking for what you think on the pendant idea!
